Roller Shades: The “Come Bach” Shade
Did you know that one of the oldest type of window treatment  which has been around for over 100 years is back in style? Once your "grandma's old roller shade" in  a plain white vinyl they are a popular choice both for commercial and residential spaces. It's demand has increased greatly because of new beautiful fabrics, textures, colors, opacities, designs, and better lifting systems. Gone are the days when you have to pull them hard to raise and lower, as well as the uncertainty of where it will stop, or how fast it will go up.  Brings back memories? Technology has since caught up with roller shades which are now very easy to operate, more reliable, and available in different types of operating systems from cordless to motorized, offering child and pet safety in the home. Depending on the openness, roller shades bring the outdoors in, cut the glare, give you better temperature and privacy control. Solar shades, a type of roller shade, has varying degrees of openness depending on the sun control needed. Some fabrics are inspired by nature and come in different textures that give character to your space.  Roller shades, absolutely simple yet elegant.

Darker solar shade fabrics (left picture)  offer excellent view through and glare control, while lighter fabrics (right picture)  are better for temperature control. If you can see out during the day, at night it will be the opposite if there is light inside the home.

Light filtering fabrics (left picture) let light through while giving privacy, whereas room darkening fabrics (right picture) block light, keeping in mind that roller shades have a bigger gap on the sides where light can seep through.

Anchor Blinds Earns Esteemed 2016 Angie’s List Super Service Award

Award reflects company’s consistently high level of customer service

Anchor Blinds has earned the home service industry’s coveted Angie’s List Super Service Award, reflecting an exemplary year of customer service to members of the local services marketplace and consumer review site in 2016.

This achievement is particularly significant as Angie’s List experienced unprecedented member growth in 2016. More than 1.6 million consumers, many of whom were eager to quickly hire highly qualified service pros, joined Angie’s List after the company added a new, free membership tier.

“Companies that can meet higher demands without missing a beat in their exemplary performance standards truly do stand apart from their peers,” said Angie’s List Founder Angie Hicks. “Only a fraction of the window treatment companies in Seattle, WA were able to do it.”

Angie’s List Super Service Award 2016 winners have met strict eligibility requirements, which include an “A” rating in overall grade, recent grade, and review period grade. The SSA winners must also be in good standing with Angie’s List, pass a background check and abide by Angie’s List operational guidelines.

"We love what we do and strive to be the premier window covering specialist in the Seattle area, so it is an honor to be recognized for achieving our goals," said Armi Avila-Lee of Anchor Blinds.

Service company ratings are updated daily on Angie’s List as new, verified consumer reviews are submitted. Companies are graded on an A through F scale in areas ranging from price to professionalism to punctuality.

For more than 21 years, Angie’s List restricted access to its verified reviews to consumers who paid membership fees. When the company removed that barrier, some companies worried that the new, non-paying members would not be as engaged as members of the past. Experience has shown, however, that these newly added members are just as engaged – across all age groups – as prior members. Also, because the company continues to adhere to its review verification process, there has been no degradation of review quality.

“The biggest change at Angie’s List is that we are connecting even more consumers to high quality service professionals,” Hicks said. “And that’s good for everyone.”

Angie's List helps facilitate happy transactions between more than 4.5 million consumers nationwide and its collection of highly rated service providers in more than 720 categories of service, ranging from home improvement to health care. Built on a foundation of more than 10 million verified reviews of local service, Angie's List connects consumers directly to its online marketplace of services from member-reviewed providers, and offers unique tools and support designed to improve the local service experience for both consumers and service professionals.

Knock on Wood (or Faux Wood)
Wood blinds are timeless and offer the ability to control light and privacy by tilting. That being said, they are best left down and tilted open or closed, rather than raised up and down.

Soft and ROMANtic Shades

Roman Shades have gained a great popularity in the last few years. With the rich and plush appearance they are designed to make a room look more dramatic, or depending on the style, simply blend in with the window. When Ileana called us for window treatments, her vision was a clean, uniform look throughout the house with the soft element to it. We ended up using flat roman shades in an off-white color as Ileana didn’t want to detract from the frame of the window and looking to add color through drapery down the road. The look of how the roman shades stack in folds when completely raised also added interest to the home.

Care & Cleaning:

When cleaning any window, spray glass cleaner on a cloth rather than directly on the window. This will prevent damage to the fabrics from splattering cleaner.

Dusting: To maintain a like-new appearance, perform regular light dusting with a feather duster.

Vacuuming: For deeper cleaning, lightly vacuum with the upholstery attachment of any vacuum cleaner.

Professional dry cleaning recommended for some fabrics.
